Greetings to all, in today's post , I would like to talk about the ESV (English Standard Version) Bible. It has been said that the ESV was either a better translation or a continuation of the KJV. In my opinion, it fits neither category. I will point out that there is no lineage that leads to the King James Bible. However, there is a direct link or links to the RV(Revised Version)1885 based on Westcott & Hort (1881) and their attempt to massacre the KJB. This attempt did not succeed as well as they had hoped , which led to the ASV(1901) which was still using the Greek text from Westcott & Hort. Then the RSV(1952) came along using for the New Testament "Novum Testamentum Graece" by Eberhard Nestle which began in 1898 combined with Westcott & Hort. It is now called Nestle & Aland but Kurt Aland did not show up until the 1950s. Then by the request and direction of John Piper to the CEO of Crossway Publishing Lane Dennis, he wanted Lane to buy the rights to the RSV so they could radically change it. So that leads us to the ESV(2001). So as you can see clearly the ESV has no relation to the KJB but instead is the final product of Westcott & Hort 1881. I will add that 94% of the New Testament in the 2001 ESV falls in line with the 1881 Greek New Testament by Westcott & Hort.
